The Foundations Of Community Christian Church

Community Christian Church is an independent congregation and part of the independent fellowship of Christian Churches / Churches of Christ.

Acts 16:30 - 34

". . . Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"

In the text, the apostle Paul told the jailor to "believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved - you and your household." What does it mean to believe? The text tells us that Paul then spoke to him the word of the Lord. Hearing is essential for saving faith. How can one believe what one has not heard or understood?

Secondly, Paul immersed him and his family. Upon believing the word of God, the man and his family responded in faith, being immersed into Jesus Christ. It can be assumed, since repentance was so significantly proclaimed on the Day of Pentecost and throughout the New Testament scriptures, that the man and his family, upon believing the Word, repented and were immersed.

Note, in scripture, every instance of immersion (baptism) took place immediately following a person's confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism does not save one by itself, but it is part of what God commands us to do to be His. Hear, believe, repent, confess faith in Christ and be immersed into the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We urge all to follow in obedience to the teachings of God's Word.
